Summer Fun Week 1: Celebrate America with Patriotic Pinwheels

Here's a patriotic work of art to get your ready for our nation’s biggest holiday, the 4th of July. Andrea Atwater walks us through the steps.

Project Steps:

1.  Download this pattern template to print. Using card stock, print the blue grid on one side then flip the page over and print the red dots.

2.  Cut a small slit at a 45 degree angle at each corner like this:

3.  Carefully poke a hole in the top of the lollipop stick with a straight pin.

4.  Fold down every other corner of your pinwheel and hold it in place in the center.

5.  Poke a straight pin through the center, being sure to catch all the corners.

6.  Gently tap with the hammer until it is secure, but the pin isn’t going all the way through the lollipop stick.

7.  Glue in place, if you’d like.

Materials Used:

White cardstock for template (or you can use a double sided scrapbook sheet)

Small straight pins with glass heads

Lollipop sticks

Glue (optional)

Kids Corner: Valentine's Paper Heart Wreath

Here's a sweet and super-easy Valentine's Craft to do with the kids:

It's a great Valentine’s Day heart wreath decoration your child can make for home or their classroom. Anything goes, so let the kids get creative!

1) Using a plain white 8.5" x 11" piece of paper (cardstock works great), fold one corner over and trim the excess to make it square.

2) Cut around the edges and round it off along with the inside. Don't worry about being perfect (as you can see in my photo), you will be pasting hearts over it.

3) Use your glue stick to attach your hearts in any way you desire. You can cut out hearts from pretty paper or use pre-cut hearts. Wrap a ribbon around the wreath to hang. It's that easy.

Materials needed:

White cardstock

Assorted papers

Cut-out hearts

Glue stick

Mixed Media Monday: Valentine's Inspiration

Looking for some inspiration for your Valentine's cards? Our Anne Grbic created this adorable piece using Craft Attitude, doilies, red paper and gold textured paper, ribbon and some flowers.

She printed the fairy, a free printable from, and all the words including "LOVE" on the plastic heart on Craft Attitude and glued them to the different surfaces. She punched the little hearts from gold and red foil paper and glued them down.  The gold rays are recycled from an old Christmas decoration.

Last-Minute Christmas Cards

Don't worry, you've still got time to whip up some pretty, customized Christmas cards to send out this year. We're making it even easier with these inspirational ideas from artists Anne Grbic and Einat Kessler.

In card #1, Anne printed this angel image onto Craft Attitude film, and then adhered it to some glitter paper and finished it off with some embellishments.

Einat used cardstock, distress stamp ink, stencil, thread and letter stickers to create the adorable Santa-inspired card in #2.

Anne printed the image on card #3 on Craft Attitude film, and then adhered the image to Vertigo Film Translucent Patterned Sheets to achieve this cool prism effect. The Craft Attitude film allows the texture of any paper to show thorugh the image.

Einat used a scalloped punch, circle punch, inks and embellishments for card #4, which she glued to red corrugated sheets.

Be sure to check out Einat's 12 Cards of Christmas videos on her YouTube page for even more ideas and go here for lots of Christmas paper craft supplies in our super store!
